Refugees arriving
in a divided society

In 2015 over 60 million people fled for war and violence. There haven’t been this many people on the move since World War II. 43,000 people arrived in the Netherlands in 2015
, looking for safety.

Combined with the struggles Dutch people
experienced since the financial crisis, this
is a risky situation. People worry about
their own and their children’s future. This
fear had lead to a division between
various ethnic and religious groups and
has the potential to escalate further.

Life vests:
an ecological threat

Over 1 million life vests have been left behind on Greek beaches. They form
an ecological threat and hinder local tourism. Our Greek partner Odyssea
collects these vests and transports them to Athens. Here locals and
newcomers clean them and prepare them for transport to Amsterdam.
